Senior Backend Engineer (Scala + TypeScript)

Location: Gdańsk, Poland; hybrid work with regular in-studio collaboration in Gdańsk, Wrzeszcz.

Salary: 169–190 PLN/hour + VAT on B2B or 20,750–23,240 PLN gross on UoP.

What you will do

• Build a next-generation passwordless authentication platform used by millions worldwide, using advanced biometrics to secure digital identities and enable seamless access.
• Develop features across the stack, primarily in Scala with TypeScript and React.
• Help shape the architecture, engineering standards, and ways of working as one of the first engineers on a new team.
• Design and build scalable production backend services and solutions across cloud and container environments.
• Collaborate closely with product and engineering colleagues, taking ownership of solutions and focusing on business value.
• Use AI tools to support coding, testing, documentation, and team collaboration.

Requirements

• 6–8 years of experience building production backend services at scale, including experience designing scalable systems.
• Strong knowledge of Scala.
• Hands-on experience with TypeScript and React.
• Good understanding of functional programming concepts, including pure functions, composition, and algebraic data types, with an interest in applying them in practice.
• Solid understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Good knowledge of HTTP, REST APIs, and modern web communication patterns.
• Experience with cloud environments and containers, including AWS, GCP or Azure, Kubernetes, and Docker.
• Experience with backend testing approaches and tools.
• Confidence working across the stack, taking ownership of solutions, and communicating very well in English and Polish.

Nice to have

• Experience with Node.js is a significant advantage.
