Engineering Tech Lead (AI)

What you will do

• Own the technical direction and quality of a six-engineer team.
• Design and deliver complex, multi-component platform systems, including design documentation, technical trade-offs, and reviews.
• Build and ship LLM-powered capabilities end to end, including agent architectures, evaluation, guardrails, and production-scale cost, latency, and reliability management.
• Operate production services through the on-call rotation and use operational feedback to improve system design.
• Turn ambiguous, large-scale LLM and agent problems into concrete, shippable plans.
• Raise engineering standards through code review, mentorship, direct feedback, and AI-first development practices.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including shipping and operating production systems at a commercial product company.
• 2+ years leading major projects or mentoring engineers, formally or informally.
• Independent technical leadership experience, including personally architecting systems, writing design documents, and leading projects from idea to production.
• Hands-on experience operating high-scale production systems, including performance, reliability, and cost trade-offs.
• Strong proficiency in a modern backend language and comfort working across the stack with a modern frontend framework.
• Experience building with LLMs; AI tooling must be core to the software development approach, with concrete knowledge of agent architectures, evaluation, model failure modes, and responsible AI product design.

• Experience running services on Kubernetes in a major cloud.
• Startup experience as a founder, core engineer, or first tech lead.
• Experience building security products.
