Senior Geospatial, CAD, and Survey Lead

Location: On-site at Robot Ranch in Austin, Texas; relocation to Austin is required if not within commuting distance. Extended hours or travel to job sites may be required for critical project deadlines.

What you will do

• Lead the geospatial, CAD, and survey function from bid-stage takeoffs through machine-control models, progress surveys, and final as-builts.
• Build and quality-control 3D design surfaces, corridor models, and machine-control files from civil plan sets for Trimble, Topcon, Leica, or similar systems.
• Establish site control, localizations, and coordinate systems across active projects.
• Plan and process drone photogrammetry and LiDAR surveys, including existing-condition surveys, progress quantities, and stockpile volumes.
• Define the geospatial data pipeline and collaborate with estimating, project management, field operations, and robotics software teams on model formats and autonomous-fleet data.
• Develop CAD, survey, and GIS procedures, templates, folder structures, and QC checklists; hire, train, and manage technicians; and support field grade checks, stakeout, and rapid model revisions.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in CAD, survey, or geospatial work on earthwork, heavy civil, or site development projects.
• Proven experience building 3D models and machine-control files for grading and excavation and troubleshooting them in the field.
• Proficiency in Civil 3D and at least one machine-control or takeoff platform, such as Trimble Business Center, AGTEK, Topcon Magnet, or Carlson.
• Hands-on experience with GNSS rovers, robotic total stations, and drone or LiDAR data processing.
• Experience leading or mentoring technicians and setting standards for others to follow.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with estimators, project managers, operators, and software engineers.
• Willingness to relocate to Austin, Texas if not within commuting distance, work extended hours, and travel to job sites when needed.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced startup environment.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geomatics, Surveying, Geography, or a related field.
• Texas RPLS, SIT, Certified Survey Technician, or Part 107 remote pilot certificate.
• GIS proficiency with ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, or PostGIS and Python scripting for data processing and automation.
• Familiarity with point-cloud and photogrammetry tools such as Pix4D, DroneDeploy, Propeller, or CloudCompare.
• Experience with mass grading, detention and pond, roadway, or utility projects where quantities drove the schedule and budget.
• Experience working with software or robotics teams or defining data formats consumed by other systems.
