Firmware Release & Test Automation Engineer

Location: Onsite five days per week at the hirify.global HQ in San Mateo, California, United States. Must be willing to travel at least one week per year to the engineering office in Krakow, Poland.

Annual OTE: $125,000–$260,000 USD.

What you will do

• Own and optimize the end-to-end release lifecycle for embedded Linux and RTOS builds across connected devices.
• Design, build, and scale automated Hardware-in-the-Loop and Software-in-the-Loop test harnesses.
• Define go/no-go qualification gates, track test flakiness, and lead triage of release-blocking bugs with firmware developers.
• Orchestrate staged fleet rollouts, canary deployments, telemetry monitoring, and automated rollbacks.
• Build CI/CD tools that accelerate firmware compilation, packaging, and local testing.
• Take technical ownership of validation systems, solve complex edge-case issues across silicon, firmware, networking, and cloud services, and mentor peers across software, firmware, and hardware engineering.

Requirements

• BS or graduate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 3+ years of experience in software or firmware build infrastructure, embedded test automation, or release engineering.
• Strong programming proficiency in Python and Bash for automation, scripting, and test framework development.
• Working knowledge of C/C++ in embedded Linux or RTOS environments.
• Hands-on experience building or maintaining CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or TeamCity for embedded systems.
• Experience executing automated tests on physical hardware targets, including HIL testbeds, serial/UART logging, JTAG/SWD, and network power switches.
• Understanding of Git branching models, tagging, release trains, and build systems including Yocto/BitBake, CMake, Make, or Bazel.
• Must be willing and able to work onsite five days per week at the San Mateo HQ.
• Must be willing to travel at least one week per year to the Krakow, Poland engineering office.

Nice to have

• Working knowledge of Go.
• Experience with secure boot workflows, cryptographic firmware signing, and SBOM generation.
• Familiarity with OTA update frameworks and dual-partition A/B fallback mechanisms.
• Experience monitoring fleet health telemetry with DataDog, Grafana, Prometheus, or ELK.
• Knowledge of embedded communication interfaces including I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi/cellular networking.
