IT Financial Planner (AI/ML)

Location: 100% remote in the United States; travel up to 5% may include customer, vendor, or business locations, overnight stays, driving, and out-of-state trips. Candidates must be authorized to work for any employer in the US without current or future visa sponsorship.

Salary: $80,000–$95,000 per year.

What you will do

• Partner with IT and Technology leaders to plan, forecast, and track costs for cloud platforms, AI/ML platforms, telephony systems, SaaS applications, and other technology infrastructure.
• Build and maintain cost models and forecasts for proposed IT projects, including implementation, licensing, ongoing run-rate, and multi-year capital costs.
• Pull and analyze cloud and vendor billing and usage data, pricing schedules, contracts, and trends to identify cost drivers, savings opportunities, risks, and root causes.
• Lead FinOps practices including cost allocation, tagging governance, budget alerts, unit-economics reporting, and optimization of technology vendor spend.
• Forecast and manage AI/ML spend, including LLM API consumption, GPU and compute costs, model hosting, and third-party AI subscriptions.
• Prepare reporting, variance analysis, annual budgets, multi-year forecasts, and financial analysis for senior leaders and technology investment decisions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, information systems, or a related field is required; equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience will be considered.
• At least five years of related experience in financial forecasting and diagnosis, corporate finance, and information analysis.
• Advanced spreadsheet skills, including Excel Pivot Tables, Lookups, and Power Query; experience with databases, Microsoft Office, financial software, and PowerPoint.
• Experience developing and monitoring the financial lifecycle of large, multi-year capital projects from proposal through implementation.
• Knowledge of project financial concepts including NPV, IRR, Payback, TCO, Synergy Tracking, and CAPEX versus Opex.
• Working understanding of cloud computing, AI/ML platforms, SaaS platforms, technology infrastructure, pricing schedules, usage data, and vendor contracts.
• Ability to organize and analyze billing and usage data such as AWS Cost Explorer and translate it into actionable financial insights.
• Familiarity with AI/ML cost structures including token-based API pricing, GPU and compute consumption, and model hosting fees.
• Excellent relationship-building, communication, presentation, analytical, problem-solving, organizational, time-management, and confidentiality skills; ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently, multitask in a fast-paced and changing environment, take initiative, collaborate remotely, and guide or support others.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and modern virtual-team communication tools such as Microsoft Teams and Slack.
• Willingness and ability to work flexible hours as needed and travel up to 5%.
