Lead Data Platform Engineer (Manager / Architect)

Base salary: $140,000–$190,000 USD per year; total estimated compensation including annual incentive: $168,000–$228,000 USD

What you will do

• Set technical direction for a small platform engineering team, sequence shared work, mentor engineers, and coordinate delivery across distributed contributors.
• Audit analytics applications, technology choices, data flows, and integration points to guide platform unification.
• Design and implement APIs, event streams, and shared data contracts that connect siloed applications without unnecessary rewrites.
• Build and maintain shared services for authentication, observability, configuration management, and logging.
• Understand distributed data pipelines and collaborate with domain teams on integration architecture, data semantics, and processing logic.
• Deploy cloud platform services, contribute to infrastructure as code, define deployment and reliability standards, and develop business cases for cloud feature adoption.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 3 years focused on data engineering, integration, platform, or infrastructure work.
• At least 2 years in a technical lead role involving technical direction, engineer mentoring, and code and design reviews.
• Production-quality Python development and strong SQL skills with large or complex datasets.
• Hands-on AWS experience covering compute, storage, and at least one managed data service.
• Professional experience with AI-assisted development tools or coding agents.
• Ability to learn unfamiliar systems quickly and understand existing pipelines, tools, and codebases.
• Strong written communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with dbt and Snowflake.
• Experience with Apache Iceberg.
• Additional language proficiency, especially Spark or Java.
• Experience leading or coordinating engineering work across distributed or multi-location teams.
• Experience with ETL/ELT data pipelines, schema management, or data quality monitoring.
• Exposure to structured SQL and semi-structured JSON, Parquet, or Avro data at scale.
• Familiarity with analytics or ML platform tools such as Airflow, MLflow, or SaaS equivalents.
• Azure or GCP experience.
