Engineering Manager (Gitaly)

What you will do

• Manage senior and staff engineers working on Gitaly and related infrastructure.
• Drive complex, long-horizon initiatives covering Git storage performance, scalability, maintainability, and core architecture.
• Balance roadmap delivery with hirify.global product and infrastructure priorities.
• Build a culture of technical rigor, accountability, ownership, and strong written communication across a fully distributed team.
• Support engineer growth through feedback, mentoring, career development, and stretch opportunities.
• Partner with Git and other stakeholder teams on performance, feature design, roadmap clarity, and Gitaly direction.

Requirements

• Experience managing engineering teams with direct reports, including hiring, performance management, and career development.
• A management philosophy focused on engineer agency and ownership, supported by consistency, follow-through, and technical judgment.
• Ability to guide highly specialized engineers through ambiguity, structured debate, high-stakes technical tradeoffs, and operation of a service critical to hirify.global.
• Strong written communication and remote, asynchronous collaboration skills across distributed, multi-timezone teams.
• Experience advancing work through documents, issue threads, and asynchronous reviews rather than relying only on meetings.
• A track record of delivering under pressure on ambiguous, long-horizon technical projects with clear outcomes.
• Ability to reason from fundamentals about maintainability, technical debt, and long-term platform viability.
• Hands-on background in version control systems, distributed systems, storage engines, or other low-level infrastructure domains, with the ability to engage credibly with systems code and architecture.
