Engineering Lead (GenAI Platform)

Location: London; hybrid work with attendance at the designated hirify.global office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from January 2027, with some teams requiring more frequent office presence. Work from abroad is available for up to 3 months per year.

What you will do

• Lead and grow the GenAI Platform team through hiring, coaching, feedback, and performance and career development.
• Set the platform direction, priorities, technical strategy, and roadmap in partnership with product and engineering teams.
• Own delivery and operation of reliable, secure, scalable platform capabilities while balancing quality, performance, cost, and development speed.
• Build effective APIs, tooling, documentation, and ownership models that make the platform easy for engineers to adopt and extend.
• Partner with AI and evaluation specialists to define testing, measurement, and release practices for platform changes.
• Work with product, engineering, and security colleagues to resolve dependencies, communicate trade-offs, and turn emerging needs into sustainable capabilities.

Requirements

• Direct experience managing software engineers, including hiring, performance management, and career development.
• Experience building shared platforms or developer tools adopted by other engineering teams, with an understanding of how to support successful adoption.
• Experience translating product needs into reusable platform capabilities and balancing immediate delivery with longer-term platform development.
• Experience building or operating complex LLM-powered applications or agent systems in production.
• Understanding of non-deterministic systems, including evaluation, quality regressions, tool use, reliability, security, and cost.
• Strong backend or infrastructure engineering background with ownership of distributed production systems in the cloud.
• Understanding of reliable service operations, including monitoring, incident response, performance, and cost management.
• Technical depth to review designs and code, assess alternatives, and help engineers solve difficult problems.
• Ability to communicate trade-offs clearly, build partnerships across teams, and use evidence to make decisions in ambiguous situations.

• Experience with event-driven architectures or long-running asynchronous workloads.
• Experience with secure execution environments and access controls.
• Experience with AI evaluation, experimentation, or observability.
• Experience with platforms handling sensitive data in finance or other high-trust environments.
