Senior Lead, AI Engineering, GDBS (AI)

Location: Hybrid in Milan or Florence, Italy; London, United Kingdom; or Berlin, Germany.

What you will do

• Design, build, test, and ship production-grade AI features, including LLM-powered workflows, retrieval-augmented generation, structured extraction, summarisation, and agentic or tool-using workflows.
• Build data and inference pipelines connecting AI features with product back ends, vector stores, and source systems such as AQ, Salesforce, and Google Workspace.
• Establish evaluation, monitoring, and guardrails to improve accuracy, safety, stability, and trustworthiness.
• Optimize latency, token usage, throughput, caching, batching, model routing, and operating costs for large workloads.
• Apply rigorous testing and pull-request discipline, and maintain stable deployments.
• Partner with the Tech Lead and product owners to translate business problems into AI solutions and identify when a non-AI approach is more appropriate.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience building with LLM APIs such as Anthropic, OpenAI, or Vertex AI/Gemini, including prompt design, function or tool calling, and structured outputs.
• Practical knowledge of embeddings, chunking, and vector search using pgvector or a managed vector database.
• Familiarity with at least one orchestration framework such as LangChain or LlamaIndex, with the ability to work without a framework when simpler.
• Awareness of LLM evaluation, hallucination mitigation, and basic red-teaming of AI outputs.
• Strong Python experience with FastAPI, Flask, or Django, producing clean, testable, production-oriented code.
• Solid PostgreSQL knowledge, including relations, indices, constraints, and transactions beyond basic ORM usage.
• Experience handling large, high-volume datasets and streaming or batch processing.
• Experience with GCP, including Vertex AI, Cloud Run, and Pub/Sub, or a comparable cloud platform; proficiency with queues and asynchronous, event-driven workflows.
• Working knowledge of CI/CD workflows and containerisation with Docker; sound practices for authentication, authorisation, throttling, and handling sensitive or proprietary data in AI workflows.
• Proficiency in business English and the ability to explain complex technical and AI concepts to non-technical business colleagues.

Nice to have

• Experience with MLOps or model lifecycle tooling, or fine-tuning.
• Exposure to front-end development with React or Next.js for AI-facing interfaces.
• Interest in climate, carbon markets, or sustainability data.
• Experience with Kubernetes.
