Senior Software Engineer (Python)

Location: Zürich, Switzerland; hybrid, with two days per week in the Zurich office.

What you will do

• Own backend work from problem definition and solution shaping through development, testing, production operation, and incident response.
• Build cloud-native Python services, APIs, event-driven systems, distributed systems, and automation on Azure.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Security Operations to turn customer and operational needs into practical engineering solutions.
• Design for failures, retries, concurrency, asynchronous processing, external-service dependencies, reliability, security, performance, and maintainability.
• Use AI coding assistants and agents thoughtfully, review their output, and ensure production code is secure and maintainable.
• Review code and designs, mentor colleagues, improve engineering practices and tooling, and contribute to CI/CD, monitoring, testing, and on-call arrangements.

Requirements

• 6+ years of software engineering experience and strong experience building and running backend services in production.
• Excellent Python skills, including testing, typing, dependency management, and asynchronous programming.
• Good understanding of distributed systems, event-driven architectures, APIs, data persistence, and failure handling.
• Experience building cloud-native applications on Azure, or strong experience with another major cloud platform and an interest in learning Azure.
• Experience using AI coding assistants or agents in real development, with the ability to review, debug, and challenge their output, particularly regarding security and sensitive information.
• Strong debugging skills across application code, services, data, and infrastructure.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and secure software development.
• Ability to explain technical decisions, risks, and trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical colleagues; confidence working independently and handling ambiguity.
• Willingness to work from the Zurich office two days per week. Fluency in English.

Nice to have

• Experience in cybersecurity, SOAR, managed security services, or SOC automation.
• Experience with Microsoft Sentinel, Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Graph, or Microsoft Entra ID.
• Experience with durable workflow orchestration, message brokers, or high-throughput event processing.
• Experience with Terraform, GitHub Actions, monorepos, or trunk-based development.
• Experience building AI capabilities into production services and evaluating their reliability and safety.
