Counsel, Workers Compensation Claim

Location: Hybrid role in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with another listed location in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, United States.

Annual base salary: $109,300–$180,200, plus eligibility for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What you will do

• Handle a caseload primarily involving low- to moderate-complexity insurance defense and workers compensation litigation from inception through trial, hearing, and appeal.
• Develop litigation strategies, try cases to verdict, negotiate resolutions, and provide case analysis and recommendations to insured clients and claim partners.
• Conduct legal research; draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other legal documents; and deliver persuasive written and oral presentations.
• Attend court events, depositions, hearings, trials, dispositive motion arguments, and other appointments independently.
• Build relationships with clients, colleagues, claim partners, and business partners; provide legal advice and training.
• Use case management systems, available technology, and automation effectively; travel as required by business needs.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate or equivalent international legal degree and graduation from an accredited law school.
• At least 2 years of experience as a practicing attorney; 3+ years of insurance defense litigation experience is expected for the ideal candidate.
• Active license in good standing to practice law in the state or states where representation is required.
• Regular experience handling hearings, trials, dispositive motion arguments, depositions, or other court proceedings, with the ability to travel to those proceedings.
• Experience independently handling cases from inception through trial or hearing and appeal.
• Strong legal research, persuasive legal writing, oral advocacy, communication, negotiation, decision-making, and technology skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail, urgency, and responsiveness.
• Ability to foster collaborative relationships with colleagues, customers, and business partners and deliver strong customer service.
• Valid driver's license is required depending on the location.
