Principal Embedded Software Engineer (Medical Devices)

Location: Raleigh, North Carolina; hybrid workplace with a minimum of 3 days a week onsite. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States.

Base salary: $120,000–$165,000 annually, with possible discretionary bonuses.

What you will do

• Design and develop high-performance, robust embedded software for the Novum infusion pump portfolio, integrating software with hardware and implementing high-precision system functionality.
• Contribute to modular, scalable, and maintainable software and device architecture.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to define system requirements and integrate software and hardware components.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers, including managing technical projects.
• Conduct code reviews, establish testing strategies, and validate software functionality and performance.
• Create and maintain documentation, share technical knowledge, and track emerging embedded-systems development and verification technologies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience in embedded software development, including 3+ years writing high-reliability real-time embedded software in C/C++.
• Highly proficient in C++ with a strong understanding of object-oriented programming principles.
• Experience with real-time operating systems and embedded Linux.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Proven leadership abilities, including experience managing technical projects and mentoring team members.

Nice to have

• Experience with Python, Git, and continuous integration and continuous deployment tools such as Jenkins.
• Knowledge of object-oriented design principles for embedded systems and experience writing, debugging, and optimizing C/C++ code for embedded systems.
• Experience with automated testing using GTest.
• Experience in a regulated industry, ideally medical device software with IEC 62304 experience.
• Excellent documentation skills.
