Associate General Counsel (Cryptocurrency)

Location: Sliema, Malta; must be resident of Malta.

What you will do

• Provide legal support across complaints and litigation, product development, corporate governance, contract negotiation, regulatory matters, compliance, institutional sales and partnerships, and marketing and advertising.
• Analyze legal risks relating to new and existing digital assets and manage the legal component of the new asset review process.
• Manage civil and regulatory litigation when required, including retaining and supervising outside counsel.
• Manage ongoing license obligations, communicate with the regulator, and draft and maintain internal policies.
• Collaborate with product, business development, legal, and business teams on company-wide projects and strategic goals.
• Handle legal requests across the business and advise on legal concepts and risks.

Requirements

• Doctor of Law (LL.D.) or Master in Advocacy, with the warrant required to practice as an Advocate under Maltese law.
• Resident of Malta.
• 5+ years of experience at a top-tier law firm and/or in-house legal team, preferably in financial services or the cryptocurrency industry.
• Experience advising on cryptocurrency and blockchain technology legal issues, or strong interest and knowledge in the field, with a basic understanding of or willingness to learn the relevant legal and regulatory landscape.
• Strong academic credentials, excellent writing and analytical skills, and experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts.
• Experience working on cross-jurisdictional matters and with a global legal team.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, growth-stage, multicultural environment and collaboratively within a high-functioning legal team.
• Ability to advise business teams effectively, build trust, navigate a rapidly changing legal landscape, and deal with legal ambiguity.
• Self-starter who is a quick learner, highly driven, proactive, responsive, and precise.
