Software Engineer (Fullstack)

Location: On-site in Auckland, New Zealand; office-first with flexibility when needed.

What you will do

• Build and ship full-stack products for Talent and People, including React front ends, Python services, and data pipelines.
• Design backend services, APIs, and data structures connecting hiring, HR, payroll, and performance data into one trusted view.
• Create clean, intuitive products for leaders, managers, and the People team.
• Own features from scoping and architecture through building, testing, deployment, and iteration.
• Maintain engineering foundations including repositories, pull requests, code reviews, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Design access, retention, and audit controls for sensitive people data, use AI where it creates real leverage, and work closely with Talent and People product managers.

Requirements

• Around 4–5 years of software engineering experience.
• Strong full-stack engineering skills, ideally with TypeScript and/or React on the front end and Python and/or Node on the back end.
• Solid experience designing and building production-grade APIs, services, data structures, and data pipelines.
• Hands-on experience managing repositories and pull requests, reviewing code, and building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
• Ability to build maintainable software with reliability, observability, and performance in mind.
• Comfort working across the stack and solving problems wherever they are located.
• Ability to focus on product adoption and user value.
• Self-awareness, empathy, coachability, teaching ability, simplification skills, and collaborative communication with non-technical teams.

Nice to have

• Experience building with AI, including vector databases, embeddings, or retrieval systems.
• Exposure to workflow tools such as n8n, Temporal, or Airflow.
• Experience with data engineering, ETL pipelines, or event-driven architecture.
• Experience building with HR, recruiting, or payroll systems and their APIs.
• Enjoyment of fast-paced and ambiguous environments.
