Staff Software Engineer – Cards Servicing (AWS/Node.js)

What you will do

• Own technical direction and domain architecture for Cards Servicing, including roadmaps, service boundaries, data ownership, scalability, resilience, and maintainability.
• Lead AWS-based backend modernization across compute, data, messaging, integrations, and reusable servicing capabilities while reducing vendor coupling and complexity.
• Design critical distributed servicing workflows across internal and external platforms, including consistency and recovery patterns that protect account and card data integrity.
• Contribute to implementations, prototypes, code reviews, and design reviews, and resolve complex issues across services and infrastructure.
• Advance automated testing, CI/CD, secure coding, observability, performance, production readiness, documentation, and technical-debt reduction.
• Mentor engineers and emerging technical leaders and collaborate with Engineering, Product, Architecture, Security, and Platform teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including designing and operating production backend systems and leading complex technical initiatives.
• Strong proficiency in Node.js and JavaScript or TypeScript, with hands-on experience designing, implementing, and maintaining REST APIs.
• Experience designing and implementing backend solutions on AWS, with familiarity with Amazon EKS, AWS Lambda, Amazon SQS, and supporting AWS services.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, asynchronous processing, service integration, relational and NoSQL data stores, and reliability patterns.
• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, monitoring, troubleshooting, and secure software development.
• Ability to mentor engineers, lead design discussions, and influence technical decisions across teams without formal authority.
• Ability to turn ambiguous business and technical problems into clear engineering plans, explain architectural trade-offs to technical and nontechnical stakeholders, provide constructive feedback, and balance delivery speed, operational risk, and long-term quality.

Nice to have

• Experience shaping end-to-end architecture for complex financial services or large-scale customer platforms, including business workflows, customer and account lifecycles, data ownership, and enterprise and third-party integrations.
• Experience leading cross-team technical strategy and platform evolution, including new capabilities, legacy modernization, build-versus-buy decisions, and complex migrations.
• Deep experience designing and operating AWS-based distributed systems with containerized services, serverless computing, asynchronous messaging, and data storage.
• Experience applying domain-driven design to establish service boundaries, data ownership, and reusable capabilities across teams.
• Experience building and operating systems in regulated environments requiring security, auditability, data integrity, and operational resilience.
