TL;DR
Senior Principal iOS Architect (Medical Devices): Defining and evolving the architecture of a patient-facing iOS controller for an FDA-regulated insulin delivery system with an accent on BLE connectivity, therapy data integrity, cloud synchronization, and cybersecurity. Focus on designing reliable pump and CGM communication, managing safety-critical risks across connectivity and lifecycle events, and establishing architecture standards for regulated medical software.

Location: San Diego, California, United States; hybrid, with 1–2 days per week in the office.

Annual base salary: $226,400.00–$339,650.00 for U.S.-based positions; incentive compensation may also apply.

Company

hirify.global is a medical device company developing the Omnipod insulin delivery platform and connected systems for diabetes and other therapeutic applications.

What you will do

  • Define and evolve the iOS architecture for pump control, CGM and pump data capture, local persistence, cloud upload, connection loss, background execution, and app lifecycle events.
  • Own BLE connection, pairing, bonding, reconnection, command reliability, notification handling, and coexistence with pump firmware constraints.
  • Set the iOS technical vision through roadmaps, architecture decision records, interface contracts, and implementation standards.
  • Design regulated medical device software with traceable requirements, risk controls, verification and validation, and FDA design controls.
  • Establish security, privacy, and data integrity architecture for therapy commands, protected health information, glucose data, insulin delivery data, and device-state data.
  • Review designs and critical code paths, mentor senior engineers, and partner with firmware, cloud, quality, human factors, cybersecurity, regulatory, and clinical teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
  • At least 10 years of professional software engineering experience, including substantial recent experience architecting and shipping production iOS mobile applications.
  • Deep experience with Swift and Apple platform APIs, including application lifecycle, background execution, networking, and local storage.
  • Demonstrated iOS Bluetooth Low Energy experience using Core Bluetooth, including connection management, pairing, and reliable command and notification handling.
  • Experience defining architecture for a connected system where a mobile app controls or serves as a gateway for a physical device and cloud backend.
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA and protected health information collection, storage, and transmission in a mobile medical application.
  • Experience working in a regulated quality system, including requirements traceability and verification, such as medical device, aerospace, or another design-control environment.
  • Ability to write and defend architecture decisions balancing safety, security, reliability, and delivery speed.
  • Clear written and verbal communication with engineers and quality, regulatory, and clinical partners.

Nice to have

  • Experience with insulin delivery, CGM, or other Class II or Class III connected medical devices.
  • Working knowledge of IEC 62304, ISO 14971, IEC 62366, FDA design controls, and FDA premarket cybersecurity guidance.
  • Mobile medical software security architecture, including secure storage, certificate pinning, authenticated cloud APIs, and BLE security modes.
  • Android mobile application experience to align iOS and Android controllers.
  • Flutter or Kotlin Multiplatform experience limited to shared non-UI logic, with the therapy interface remaining native iOS.
  • Experience with offline-first synchronization, conflict handling, cloud auditability, SwiftUI, UIKit, production-scale modularization, and dependency boundaries for safety-critical paths.
  • Experience contributing technical content to regulatory submissions or design history files.
  • Graduate degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
  • Experience mentoring senior and principal-level engineers and setting engineering standards across teams as an individual contributor.

Culture & Benefits

  • Hybrid work arrangement with regular office attendance in San Diego.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Paid time off and employee wellness programs.
  • Work on connected medical devices designed to support insulin delivery and diabetes management.

Hiring process

  • The posting remains open until the position is filled.
  • Applications are submitted online through the hirify.global Careers site.
