Senior / Staff Software Engineer — Algorithmic Execution Platform (C++)

Location: Hybrid, 4 days in office, based in New York, NY or Lisle, IL

Base salary: $200,000–$350,000

What you will do

• Design and harden the client-facing FIX acceptor and own the full institutional order lifecycle, including entry, fills, acknowledgements, rejects, and outbound sequencing.
• Build production-grade low-latency feed handlers for ITCH, OUCH, and binary exchange protocols across major U.S. exchanges and alternative trading systems.
• Build and optimize venue connectivity, profiling latency and analyzing hot paths from order receipt through exchange acknowledgement.
• Architect and implement real-time pre-trade risk checks while balancing correctness with microsecond-level latency budgets.
• Contribute to configuration, command and control, normalized internal messaging, and audit-trail logging infrastructure.
• Help migrate algorithmic strategies from legacy infrastructure to the new shared execution platform.

Requirements

• 7+ years of production experience building high-performance, low-latency systems in C++.
• Deep knowledge of FIX 4.2/4.4 and the complete order lifecycle, including entry, routing, execution, cancellation, and reporting.
• Experience with ITCH, OUCH, and binary exchange market data protocols, including production-grade feed handlers.
• Strong understanding of low-latency architecture, including kernel bypass, lock-free data structures, CPU affinity, memory layout, and hot-path profiling.
• Experience with multicast messaging such as Aeron, LBM, or equivalent publish/subscribe transport.
• Solid understanding of U.S. equity market structure, including order types, Reg NMS, venue routing, and lit and dark pools.
• Comfort working in Linux, including operating-system-level performance tuning.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related STEM field.

Nice to have

• Experience building algorithmic execution or smart order routing infrastructure at a broker-dealer, proprietary trading firm, or exchange.
• Familiarity with options or futures execution infrastructure.
• Experience designing firm-level and account-level pre-trade risk systems.
• Knowledge of CAT reporting requirements and their impact on system design.
• Experience building shared execution platforms for multiple asset classes.
• Exposure to international markets and cross-region system design.
• Experience with fractionalization and/or internalization.
• Python proficiency for internal tooling and test infrastructure.
• Familiarity with containerization and Kubernetes-based deployment.
