Senior Software Engineer (Hardware In Loop)

Location: San Mateo, California, United States; full-time onsite role. Relocation assistance may be provided for eligible roles.

Annual base salary: $190,000–$250,000 USD.

What you will do

• Own the architecture and roadmap of the embedded hardware-in-the-loop test framework and its CI integration.
• Design and build test stations and fixtures, manage the physical station fleet, and bring new products onto the HIL system.
• Partner with firmware, platform, and product teams to convert validation needs into reliable automated tests.
• Develop critical use cases that broaden hardware validation and development across engineering teams.
• Triage failing test runs, distinguish infrastructure issues from product regressions, and route confirmed bugs to the appropriate team.

Requirements

• Strong Python skills with clean, well-tested code and sensible abstraction boundaries.
• Software engineering experience, including building or owning test or CI infrastructure.
• Solid Linux systems skills covering networking, USB/udev, systemd, Docker, and shell.
• Hands-on embedded Linux experience with flashing, bootloaders, recovery modes, serial consoles, and debugging non-booting boards.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to support multiple engineering teams.
• Experience or interest in hardware bring-up and system debugging.

Nice to have

• FAA Part 107 certification is strongly encouraged within the first 60 days of employment; it is required for certain positions.
