Senior Engineer Workplace Technology (Microsoft)

What you will do

• Engineer, design, implement and operate Microsoft workplace platforms across on-premises, hybrid and cloud environments.
• Own the technical roadmap and lifecycle of Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Exchange Online, SQL Server, Windows Server, Intune and related workplace technologies.
• Design, deploy and operate Azure infrastructure and Azure Virtual Desktop, including host pools, session hosts, image management, FSLogix and user-experience optimisation.
• Engineer identity and access management using Active Directory, Entra ID, Conditional Access, MFA, Privileged Identity Management and Single Sign-On.
• Develop automation and self-service capabilities with PowerShell, Microsoft Graph and Azure Automation, while modernising legacy platforms and supporting the transition to Azure.
• Lead technical investigations, major-incident response, root-cause analysis, monitoring, recovery processes, documentation and cross-functional delivery with security, infrastructure, architecture, service management and suppliers.

Requirements

• Extensive experience in a senior Microsoft infrastructure, platform or cloud engineering role.
• Expert knowledge of Microsoft 365, including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive and Intune.
• Strong experience with Microsoft Entra ID, Active Directory and hybrid identity architectures.
• Advanced Windows Server administration and enterprise Microsoft infrastructure experience.
• Experience supporting Exchange Online and hybrid Exchange, including email security, compliance, retention, journaling and SMTP routing and transport.
• Experience designing, deploying and supporting Microsoft Azure services in enterprise environments.
• Strong knowledge of Conditional Access, MFA, Microsoft Defender and Zero Trust principles.
• Advanced PowerShell scripting and automation; experience with Intune, Windows Autopilot and modern endpoint management.
• Strong troubleshooting, incident management and problem-solving skills in business-critical environments from the network layer upward.
• Experience delivering complex technical projects, migrations and platform transformation initiatives in regulated and security-conscious organisations.
• Ability to produce technical documentation, architecture designs and operational runbooks, plus communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Cloud Adoption Framework and Azure Landing Zone experience.
• Azure Virtual Desktop, FSLogix, Remote Desktop Services or Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops experience.
• Infrastructure as Code with Terraform, Bicep or similar technologies.
• Azure DevOps, GitHub, GitLab and modern CI/CD experience.
• Microsoft Graph API development and automation experience.
• Microsoft Purview, Information Protection, Data Loss Prevention, Records Management, Microsoft Defender XDR, Defender for Cloud Apps, Microsoft 365 backup and recovery experience.
• Experience with large-scale workplace transformation, cloud migration, proactive or synthetic monitoring, service observability, Copilot for Microsoft 365, Copilot Studio or AI-enabled workplace technologies.
• Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Azure Virtual Desktop or Identity and Access Administrator certifications.
• Strong networking knowledge from layers 2 and 3 upward, including DNS, DHCP and routing protocols.
