Passive Microwave Imaging Specialist (Satellite Data Processing)

What you will do

• Provide scientific and technical support for prototype Level 1 and Level 2 product-generation functions for passive microwave and sub-millimetre radiometers.
• Develop calibration and validation tools and generate test and auxiliary datasets for processor development, verification, and validation.
• Support the operational implementation, validation, refinement, and evolution of satellite data processors.
• Inter-compare prototype and operational processor results and produce regular production and quality-monitoring reports.
• Support PMW satellite missions in cooperation with scientists, external agencies, and industrial partners, including reviews and technical meetings.
• Report product-service anomalies, contribute to diagnosis and resolution tracking, and maintain design and processing-facility documentation.

Requirements

• University degree in remote sensing, meteorology, physics, engineering, IT/computational science, or another relevant discipline.
• Strong experience in scientific software development, including modularity, readability, adaptability, and configuration management.
• Very good Python skills.
• Very good skills in at least one of C/C++, Java, or Fortran.
• Fluency in Linux/Unix operating systems.
• Demonstrated experience writing scientific and technical documents.
• Fluency in English.

Nice to have

• Experience processing Level 1 and Level 2 data from passive microwave instruments.
• Knowledge of MATLAB or similar programming platform tools.
• Experience with microwave radiative transfer models and numerical weather prediction forecast data.
• Experience with calibration and validation of satellite data products and satellite data processing chains.
• Experience specifying, developing, and validating requirements and satellite data processing chains.
• Experience in satellite-data quality control, product monitoring, and reporting.
• Experience with unit, acceptance, system, and integration testing.
• Knowledge of another European language.
