Engineering Manager, Finance Engineering

Location: San Francisco, CA or Seattle, WA; hybrid policy requires staff to be in one of the offices at least 25% of the time, with some roles requiring more office time.

Annual salary: $320,000–$405,000 USD.

What you will do

• Lead, hire, coach, and grow the engineering team while maintaining a high bar for engineering quality.
• Own the finance event platform, governed contracts, accounting ledger, and accounting engine, ensuring every event is posted exactly once and traced to its source.
• Be accountable for production services used in real time by other engineering teams, including tax and collections services in billing flows.
• Provide SDKs, frameworks, scoped access, SOX guardrails, observability, and platform capabilities for finance applications and agents.
• Define reliability and correctness standards through SLOs, upstream calculation tests, and daily source-to-books accuracy and completeness checks.
• Align technical designs, data contracts, and APIs with Billing, Compute, and Infrastructure teams while reducing the time required to support new products, programs, and compute buildouts.

Requirements

• Experience leading teams that build and run high-volume backend systems where correctness matters, such as ledgers, billing, payments, metering, or other systems of record.
• Experience building or running event-driven systems with idempotent processing, replay, and backfill, including maintaining correctness in production.
• Sound judgment regarding platform boundaries, data contracts, and API design.
• Experience hiring and growing engineers and setting engineering standards for platforms.
• Ability to work across functions with engineering teams, finance, and auditors, and explain technical trade-offs clearly to non-engineering partners in writing and in meetings.
• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, with a field relevant to the role demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.

Nice to have

• 3+ years of engineering management experience and 8+ years of total industry experience.
• Experience building developer platforms or paved paths used by other builders.
• Experience with Go and streaming systems such as Pub/Sub or Kafka.
• Experience building with LLMs and agents, including MCP.
• Experience building or running a ledger or sub-ledger and working knowledge of double-entry accounting.
• Experience managing teams through audit and compliance work, including SOX change management, segregation of duties, and audit trails.
• Experience with ERP or financial systems such as Workday Financials or Oracle Financials.
