2027 PhD Resident - AI for Science (Lab Automation)

Location: Onsite at hirify.global's headquarters in Mountain View, California, five days a week.

Base salary: $109,000–$157,000 per year, plus benefits.

What you will do

• Develop and maintain a shared Python codebase for liquid handling, automated measurements, data processing, and laboratory communications.
• Develop and test machine-learning models, LLMs, and agents for laboratory operations.
• Control and orchestrate laboratory instruments, robotics, and automated workflows.
• Contribute to ehirify.globalperimental design and implementation in biology and chemistry.
• Work cross-functionally with ehirify.globalperts at hirify.global and Google across multiple disciplines.
• Iterate quickly and learn on the job while contributing to confidential or public projects.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a doctoral (PhD) program in AI, machine learning, chemistry, biology, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
• Ehirify.globalperience with Python, software development, and machine-learning concepts.
• Ehirify.globalperience with robotics systems such as manipulators, liquid handlers, or similar equipment.
• Knowledge of research biology and chemistry laboratory practice.
• Ehirify.globalperience building workflows as part of a team.
• Ability to work onsite five days a week.
• Ability to contribute to an early-stage machine-learning-guided protein-design project, collaborate effectively, design thoughtful ehirify.globalperiments, iterate, and work through changing requirements.

Nice to have

• Ehirify.globalperience with commercial laboratory automation equipment such as Hamilton, Agilent Bravo, or autosamplers.
• Ehirify.globalperience with instrument serial and TCP/IP communication standards, including TCP/IP, serial, and CAN.
• Ehirify.globalperience building production software, algorithms, or applications.
• Ehirify.globalperience using and developing code with pylabrobot.
• Ehirify.globalperience working in a wet lab environment.
• Ehirify.globalperience with microcontrollers such as Raspberry Pi or ESP32, embedded systems, or PLCs.
