Senior Software Engineer, Java (Automations)

Location: Remote from the USA for candidates residing in CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, IL, KS, ME, MA, NJ, NC, NY, OR, TN, TX, VA, OH, or WA; hybrid work is available from physical offices in Austin, Texas, or Tampa, Florida. Onsite interviews may be required. The role is not available within the city limits of Chicago unless the candidate resides outside the city proper or is willing to self-relocate.

Base salary: $160,000–$200,000 per year for roles based in California, Colorado, Maryland, New Jersey, Washington, or New York.

What you will do

• Lead the development of large-scale software applications and scalable platform improvements for IT Operations products.
• Design and implement high-availability services supporting millions of endpoints and servers.
• Influence architecture decisions while balancing technical debt, performance, scalability, maintainability, and business needs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, mentor junior engineers, and establish technical standards.
• Own technical initiatives, address challenges using support data, and drive continuous improvements.
• Advocate for quality assurance practices and deliver robust, high-performance software.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience.
• 10+ years of Java software development experience, particularly with product applications.
• 5+ years of experience with highly scalable systems.
• Experience scaling systems and solving complex system design challenges.
• Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming design principles and practices.
• Expertise in API design and RESTful services, using frameworks such as Jersey or Spring.
• Proficiency in relational database design and development.
• In-depth knowledge of quality testing practices and delivering high-quality software.
• U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident status is required due to federal government security requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience with caching systems, particularly Redis.
• Experience with Java, Kotlin, C++, Golang, PostgreSQL, or AWS.
• Knowledge of large-scale datastore bottlenecks, asynchronous application design, and client-server architecture.
