Senior Backend Software Engineer, DX (Ruby)

Location: Fully remote across all USA time zones; preference for Pacific Time or Mountain Standard Time Zones.

Salary: $180,000–$235,000 in Zone A; $162,000–$211,500 in Zone B; $149,400–$195,050 in Zone C.

What you will do

• Drive large, complex engineering projects autonomously from technical design through launch.
• Shape vague problem statements with product and design partners, ship high-quality code, measure impact, and iterate.
• Tackle complex architecture challenges and apply architectural standards to new projects.
• Lead meaningful code reviews and documentation, including complex fixes for high-risk problems.
• Partner with engineering teams on company-wide initiatives spanning multiple projects.
• Mentor junior engineers and influence technical decision makers across the organization.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building and developing backend applications.
• Senior-level experience and a Bachelor's or Master's degree; Computer Science preferred.
• Required experience with one or more prominent languages, such as Java, Python, Kotlin, Go, or Ruby on Rails.
• Understanding of SaaS, PaaS, or IaaS and hands-on experience with public cloud offerings such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Fluency in at least one database technology, including RDBMS such as Oracle or Postgres and/or NoSQL databases such as DynamoDB or Cassandra.
• Experience crafting and implementing well-tested, highly scalable, performant microservices and/or other distributed systems.
• Practical knowledge of agile software development methodologies such as XP or Scrum.
• Ability to evaluate trade-offs between correctness, robustness, performance, space, and time.
• Experience mentoring engineers and influencing decision makers throughout the organization.
