Design Release Engineer (Exterior Trim & Lighting Accessories)

Location: Hybrid in Warren, Michigan; on-site at the Warren Tech Center at least three days per week or as determined by the hiring leader. Travel required up to 25%. This role is not eligible for relocation assistance.

What you will do

• Design and develop exterior trim and lighting accessory components from concept through launch and mass production.
• Create and manage engineering specifications, CAD models, drawings, GD&T, and tolerance analyses.
• Lead component delivery and provide technical leadership to cross-functional teams and suppliers.
• Manage engineering changes, deviations, issue resolution, and product lifecycle activities.
• Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, quality, manufacturing, warranty, and customer requirements.
• Benchmark competitive designs, analyze warranty and field data, identify root causes, validate designs with CAE and TcVis analyses, and drive corrective actions and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Three or more years of experience in product development engineering; exterior trim and/or lighting experience is preferred.
• Knowledge of automotive exterior trim and lighting systems.
• Knowledge of automotive safety, regulatory, and compliance requirements.
• Experience with or understanding of DFMEA, DRBFM, DFSS, GD&T, and tolerance analysis.
• Strong technical leadership, communication, collaboration, and project management skills, including managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Ability to apply structured problem-solving techniques to design and manufacturing challenges, analyze complex engineering data, make sound technical decisions, and learn new technical information quickly.
