Audit Operations Lead

Location: San Francisco, CA; hybrid, with staff expected to be in an office at least 25% of the time. Visa sponsorship is available, subject to role and candidate eligibility.

Annual salary: $230,000–$300,000 USD.

What you will do

• Own the annual SOX audit calendar, including interim and year-end testing windows, walkthroughs, deliverables, PBC requests, and evidence tracking.
• Coordinate external auditors, process owners, control owners, and the SOX Testing team through walkthroughs, fieldwork, testing schedules, findings, and remediation.
• Lead annual SOX scoping and risk assessment cycles, quarterly refreshes, fraud risk assessment support, and quarterly sub-certification.
• Monitor business process and IT SOX testing and report status, metrics, deficiencies, remediation, SOD, SOC 1 reviews, and audit progress to leadership and external auditors.
• Improve control documentation and guidance, and support the rollout of a GRC system covering control libraries, workflows, evidence requests, and testing templates.
• Identify AI-enabled optimization and automation opportunities, define platform data and reporting requirements, and validate that the GRC platform supports the program.

Requirements

• Big Four audit firm experience with SOX 404 or ICFR engagements, including audit calendars, PBC requests, and external-audit fieldwork.
• Direct company-side experience working with external auditor teams on requests, testing schedules, and findings.
• Several years of hands-on SOX 404 experience covering scoping, risk assessment, control documentation, testing, and deficiency evaluation.
• Working knowledge of the COSO framework, ICFR, and PCAOB standards.
• Experience developing or maintaining Risk and Control Matrices and process documentation or flowcharts.
• Experience implementing or administering GRC systems.
• Experience reporting program status, metrics, and issues to senior leadership.
• Ability to get control owners to deliver on time without direct authority over them, with clear writing and calm coordination under deadline pressure.
• A Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience; the field must be relevant through coursework, training, or professional experience.

Nice to have

• In-house SOX experience at a pre-IPO or newly public company.
• Experience running a fraud risk assessment.
• CPA, CISA, or similar certification.
• Comfort with SQL or data tools for reporting and experience building lightweight automations, including with Claude.
