Software Engineer (AI)

Location: On-site in San Diego, California, United States; a flexible workplace arrangement may be available for eligible roles, with up to two remote days per week. The role requires in-person work-related events, training, and meetings, as well as clean-room work.

Base annual salary: $134,000–$197,000.

What you will do

• Design, implement, test, and deploy software for distributed control systems in an Agile, multidisciplinary team.
• Develop C++ and Python software for Linux and VxWorks environments, including hard and soft real-time systems.
• Work with complex hardware interfaces and communication protocols including Xilinx SoC, PLC, TCP/IP, EtherCAT, CORBA, and related platforms.
• Create modular, scalable, robust, maintainable solutions based on system requirements and design documents.
• Perform unit testing, on-target testing, stability, interoperability, portability, security, and scalability verification.
• Collaborate with architects, functional engineers, stakeholders, and customers while evaluating technical risks, dependencies, and process improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering or science field.
• At least 5 years of experience in a technical development role with strong software engineering skills.
• Experience delivering at least 3 mid- to large-scale software projects with demonstrable quality.
• Strong C++ and Python knowledge, object-oriented design principles, and embedded development experience.
• Ability to guide coding efforts for a distributed control system across C++, Python, VxWorks, and Linux environments.
• Ability to develop and understand complex embedded real-time control systems, application layers, CORBA interfaces, and associated hardware.
• Technical expertise in data management, TCP/IP, and similar communication protocols.
• Knowledge of software development processes including planning, estimation, requirements analysis, design, implementation, test planning, execution, and work-product reviews.
• Strong analytical, communication, customer service, presentation, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Ability to determine technical solutions independently, analyze data, report problems, and work effectively under aggressive deadlines.

Nice to have

• Leadership experience or experience designing software for complex multiprocessor distributed control systems.
• Hands-on experience refactoring software for performance and scalability.
• Understanding of NLP techniques for chatbots, sentiment analysis, and language models.
• Proficiency with AI frameworks and libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras, and Hugging Face Transformers.
• Curiosity about and current knowledge of emerging software methodologies.
