Senior Laboratory Engineer (Medical Devices)

Location: Kennewick, WA, United States; onsite laboratory and manufacturing support. Travel may be required, and work outside normal business hours may occasionally be necessary.

Salary: $100,000–$120,000 USD per year.

What you will do

• Maintain, improve, and release changes to active and released medical device hardware designs through engineering change orders.
• Analyze nonconforming production materials and field returns, identify failure modes, and lead reliability and performance improvements.
• Monitor component obsolescence, identify alternate parts, develop qualification test plans, and perform verification testing.
• Develop and improve test fixtures, manufacturing equipment, and processes in collaboration with Service, Operations, Supplier Quality Engineering, and design engineering.
• Plan, perform, and document design verification testing and material inspections for products, subcontractor materials, and vendor materials.
• Support and lead portions of design transfer into production, collaborating with design and manufacturing engineering to enable efficient and scalable handoffs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• Typically more than five years of relevant professional or technical engineering experience, including at least three years in electronics design or manufacturing.
• Thorough knowledge of schematics, datasheets, and component-level troubleshooting within printed circuit assemblies.
• Thorough knowledge of troubleshooting multi-component electromechanical assemblies and larger systems.
• Thorough knowledge of engineering design best practices and engineering change control fundamentals.
• Working knowledge of Altium Designer or similar PCB design software, including schematic capture and PCB layout.
• Working knowledge of mechanical CAD tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Autodesk Inventor.
• Working knowledge of electronic product manufacturing processes, standards, and equipment, including printed circuit assemblies and bare fabrications.
• Working knowledge of analog and digital electronics design fundamentals, relevant medical device safety standards, and applicable EMC standards; ability to perform electrical and mechanical safety tests and participate in EMC testing with limited guidance.
• Ability to obtain necessary travel documents and perform the physical activities required when working with equipment, including lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, repetitive motions, and extensive computer use.
