Principal Data Scientist (User Ecosystem)

Location: Remote - United States

Base salary: $313,000–$365,100 USD per year, plus potential equity and commission depending on the position offered.

What you will do

• Set the scientific direction for high-impact consumer problems across discovery, relevance, personalization, growth, retention, content, and communities.
• Build models and frameworks representing users, intent, content, communities, and their relationships over time at scale.
• Define measures of consumer and ecosystem health while balancing short-term engagement against long-term value.
• Set learning agendas and guide experimentation to distinguish durable improvements from temporary metric movement.
• Develop measurement systems for heterogeneous effects across user personas, acquisition cohorts, platforms, content types, and community stages, while accounting for feedback loops, selection effects, interference, distribution shifts, and content supply.
• Translate technical findings into product and business decisions and mentor scientists while influencing data science organization direction.

Requirements

• Deep expertise in at least one relevant area of consumer science, with breadth and curiosity across adjacent domains.
• Deep understanding of modeling and optimizing systems involving users, content, communities, and feedback loops.
• Ability to frame and lead ambiguous questions, identify key uncertainties, and develop rigorous paths from evidence to action.
• Exceptional technical judgment across model design, objective selection, validation, experimentation, and production tradeoffs.
• Advanced knowledge of modern machine-learning methods for behavioral and content data, including representation learning and sequential or contextual models, with experience using PyTorch or JAX.
• Significant experience applying data science, machine learning, statistics, experimentation, or causal inference to complex consumer products.
• Experience collaborating across Product, Engineering, Research, and other partner teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, including the ability to influence senior stakeholders and explain technical ideas clearly.

Nice to have

• Expertise in recommender systems, information retrieval, user modeling, personalization, lifecycle, LTV, optimization, content or ecosystem modeling, knowledge graphs, user/content/community representations, causal inference, experimentation, or long-term consumer measurement.
