Manager, Equipment Vision Engineering (Machine Vision)

Location: On-site at the Acton, Massachusetts manufacturing location, with flexible hours as needed to support the production team and up to 15% travel.

Annual base salary: $140,400–$210,600 USD, with potential incentive compensation.

What you will do

• Lead the machine vision and instrumentation group in designing, building, and implementing cost-effective manufacturing vision and controls hardware and software.
• Establish machine inspection standards and standardize vision inspection approaches across vendors, Engineering, and production machines.
• Develop inspection performance models, manage equipment maintenance, improve system performance, and introduce new inspection equipment to increase yield and OEE.
• Analyze system breakdowns and failures, reduce false rejects, identify root causes, and implement improvements.
• Coordinate development schedules, installations, vendor programming support, validation, and post-upgrade enhancements with production teams and leadership.
• Develop technician skills, coach engineers and technicians, review production KPIs, and conduct Layered Process Audits.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with 10+ years of machine vision application experience in manufacturing; or a master’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience.
• 3+ years of experience leading and managing multiple manufacturing, automation, or engineering processes simultaneously.
• 2+ years of people leadership experience, including coaching, developing, and managing team performance.
• Expertise in machine vision system development, inspection technologies, and manufacturing process optimization.
• Experience with standard machine vision systems such as Cognex and Keyence, plus the ability to learn vendor-created non-camera-based PC vision systems.
• Machine performance statistical expertise, including CpK and OEE.
• Strong project management, cross-functional collaboration, workflow and process management, planning, communication, delegation, and team-direction skills.
• Ability to work with senior management, handle ambiguity, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of facilities and equipment, TPM, preventive maintenance, and Six Sigma.
• Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and frequently stand, walk, and reach above the shoulders and below the waist.
