Associate Forward Deployed Engineer (AI/ML)

Location: New York / New Jersey; hybrid arrangement with on-site work from the New York office 3 days per week.

Salary base range: $120,000–$145,000 per year.

What you will do

• Learn client functions and workflows from the inside, then help redesign them alongside a Senior FDE and Forward Deployed Executive.
• Build and ship production code for LLM applications, agentic workflows, and retrieval and extraction pipelines.
• Build evaluation harnesses before features by defining what working means and measuring system performance.
• Deploy systems to production on AWS and feed field learnings back into the company’s AI Blueprints.
• Take ownership of scoped production-system work, drive client adoption, and build credibility with client engineers and operators.

Requirements

• Degree in computer science, engineering, or another STEM field.
• 0–2 years of experience, including internships, co-ops, or research.
• Projects integrating AI into the software development lifecycle, with the ability to explain what worked, what broke, and what would be changed.
• Hands-on Claude Code basics.
• Strong programming fundamentals in Python or TypeScript.
• Curiosity, fast learning, and the ability to ask effective questions about unfamiliar subjects and real businesses.
• Good communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical subjects to non-engineers.
• Willingness to spend substantial time learning a client’s job before writing code.
• Ability to work on-site from the New York office 3 days per week.

Nice to have

• Cloud basics in AWS, Azure, or GCP; containers; and CI/CD.
• AI/ML coursework or foundations.
• Comfort with ambiguity in open-ended engagements.
• Interest or coursework in financial services, insurance, healthcare, or asset management.
• Experience with data pipelines or SQL; classical ML or MLOps using PyTorch, SageMaker, or MLflow; and infrastructure-as-code.
• Open-source contributions, hackathon projects, or public writing on applied AI.
• Claude certification or AWS certification.
