Staff Software Engineer (On-Prem)

Location: Remote in Canada or the United States.

Canada base pay: $195,000–$265,000 CAD annually. US salary ranges: $180,000–$250,000, $200,000–$275,000, or $205,000–$285,000 USD depending on location.

What you will do

• Set the technical direction for tooling, test infrastructure, and release automation used to ship services into hirify.global Server.
• Improve installation, upgrades, defaults, and day-to-day operation of the self-hosted hirify.global Server platform.
• Own the Kubernetes-based foundation and the tooling used by internal engineering teams and customers.
• Standardize observability with OpenTelemetry and build diagnostics that help operators identify root causes quickly.
• Partner with Support, Customer Engineering, customers, Product, and Engineering Management to resolve recurring issues and translate business goals into technical strategy.
• Use AI-native engineering practices as the default approach to solving technical problems.

Requirements

• Platform mindset with experience building internal tools, frameworks, and systems that improve engineering productivity.
• Daily use of AI tools and the ability to explain how they changed engineering practices, including their limitations.
• Deep production experience with Kubernetes and Helm, including designing, deploying, and debugging systems in air-gapped, restricted-network, and customer-operated environments.
• 8+ years of experience building production backend and infrastructure systems.
• Strong Go experience, including API design, data modelling, distributed systems, and operational tooling.
• Experience making architecture decisions across multiple systems and teams, evaluating business trade-offs, and documenting technical reasoning.
• Technical leadership experience, including mentoring engineers, giving direct feedback, and raising quality through reviews and design discussions.
• Experience shipping on-premises or self-hosted software that runs in customer environments, such as enterprise on-premises software, self-hosted SaaS, or customer-installed distributed systems.
