Associate Scientist in Protein Mass Spectrometry

Location: United States - Connecticut - Groton; on-premise work. Candidates must have permanent work authorization in the United States.

Annual base salary: $60,200-$100,400, plus eligibility for a 7.5% target bonus.

What you will do

• Learn and deploy native mass spectrometry and other structural MS methods to characterize protein-ligand interactions.
• Handle and manipulate protein samples for quantitative and qualitative binding studies.
• Support and maintain open-access MS systems and assist with data collection and processing.
• Contribute to multidisciplinary discovery projects across diverse disease areas.
• Communicate experimental work and analysis orally and in writing, while maintaining timely laboratory notebook entries and reviewing completed experiments.

Requirements

• BS degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics, molecular biology, or a related field, with approximately 1-3 years of relevant laboratory experience.
• Skill and familiarity with handling and manipulating recombinant protein samples.
• Ability to multitask and balance parallel activities.
• Ability to troubleshoot scientific and technical challenges and contribute to their resolution.
• Ability to perform practical laboratory bench work, work on a computer while standing or sitting, perform mathematical calculations, and interpret data.
• Ability to comply with laboratory safety practices.
• Permanent authorization to work in the United States by any employer.

Nice to have

• Experience with native MS, nanoelectrospray applications, or mass spectrometry characterization of large molecules.
• Previous experience with mass spectrometry instrumentation and data analysis.
• Experience using common AI tools, including generative technologies such as ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot, to support problem solving and productivity.
• Curiosity about how AI tools can improve outcomes and understanding of responsible AI practices, including risk management and ethical use.
