Software Engineer II

Location: San Diego, CA, United States; onsite role supporting U.S. Department of Defense and U.S. Navy programs. Candidates must be U.S. citizens and must currently hold or be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. government personnel security clearance.

What you will do

• Research, design, and implement technologies for automating, integrating, and delivering containerized web applications and services for the Department of Defense.
• Design, implement, deploy, and sustain mission-critical software systems supporting U.S. Navy Command & Control operations.
• Develop software that helps warfighters plan and execute missions.
• Work with engineers, subject matter experts, and cross-functional teams while handling assignments independently.
• Research and proactively propose solutions to new technical and operational problems.
• Support complex networking efforts and address challenging technical issues with initiative and resourcefulness.

Requirements

• Active U.S. national security clearance or the ability to obtain one after hire.
• U.S. citizenship and the ability to complete and maintain the required U.S. government security eligibility.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or another STEM field plus four years of relevant experience, or eight years of relevant experience.
• Experience writing backend web applications with one or more object-oriented programming languages such as Java or C++, or experience writing rich frontend applications with JavaScript UI frameworks such as React or Vue.
• Experience with type-sensitive data models, unit testing frameworks, standards-based REST API design, implementation or consumption, and software build dependency management principles and tools.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Enthusiasm and passion for delivering high-quality code.

Nice to have

• Experience developing and testing containerized backend microservices with the Java Quarkus Runtime.
• Experience developing React applications using Redux for global state management.
• Experience implementing or consuming relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• Experience integrating applications with OAuth 2.0 or OpenID Connect.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, or Helm.
• Experience designing, implementing, and consuming asynchronous APIs such as WebSockets, SSE, or Apache Kafka.
• Experience with AI-assisted agentic software development.
• U.S. Navy Command & Control domain knowledge.
• Ability to multitask, be proactive, and thrive in a dynamic environment.
