Senior Backend API Engineer

Location: Paris (75002), France; hybrid with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote.

What you will do

• Design, build, maintain, and take backend services and APIs from technical design through production.
• Own complex features and subsystems spanning multiple services, handling large data volumes, multi-tenancy, cloud performance, and cost.
• Investigate cross-system production issues, profile and optimize code, and identify risks before they reach customers.
• Use AI tooling in daily engineering work, including steering, reviewing, and challenging generated output.
• Improve engineering practices and code health through design proposals, code reviews, and mentoring.

Requirements

• 7+ years of hands-on backend development experience, including ownership of significant features from design through delivery.
• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent engineering school degree.
• Deep expertise in at least one backend language: Node.js/TypeScript, PHP, Go, or Python.
• Ability to quickly understand complex systems and take ownership of key parts, whether building from scratch or evolving existing systems.
• Strong software design and distributed systems fundamentals, including event-driven architectures, queues, database performance, and testing.
• Experience with AWS, including serverless, containers, and infrastructure as code, as well as observability tooling.
• Fluent English and French, clear communication, an ownership mindset, and strong collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Production experience with two or more of Node.js/TypeScript, PHP, Go, and Python.
• Salesforce experience.
