Senior Backend Core Engineer (PHP)

Location: Paris (75002), France; hybrid schedule with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain performant, scalable, and secure PHP/NodeJS applications for the core backend engine, with additional modules in Go and Python.
• Work with Product Managers to translate business needs into technical specifications and deliver solutions aligned with product goals.
• Collaborate with Infrastructure to optimize performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure reliable deployment and operation.
• Write clean, documented, testable code; participate in code reviews and maintain engineering best practices.
• Mentor junior developers and contribute to technical excellence and continuous improvement.
• Identify opportunities for optimization, refactoring, technical debt reduction, and adoption of relevant PHP/NodeJS advancements.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or another relevant field.
• 7+ years of professional backend development experience, with significant focus on at least one backend language: PHP, Go, NodeJS, or Java.
• Proven experience delivering complex projects with measurable impact on product performance or stability.
• Deep expertise in non-framework development and object-oriented programming principles.
• Ability to use AI tools, including Claude, across development phases such as analysis, implementation, testing, and cross-functional automations.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to debug complex issues efficiently.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Self-motivated, proactive, and committed to continuous learning and growth.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, containerization such as Docker, and Salesforce.
