Lead Engineer, Applications & Design Engineer (Specialty Coatings)

Location: Bedford, Massachusetts, United States; primarily on-site with occasional work-from-home flexibility and less than 10% travel.

Salary: $100,000–$135,000 per year.

What you will do

• Support the development, qualification, and implementation of ALD, PVD, and PECVD coating applications, process capabilities, and manufacturing solutions.
• Develop, optimize, troubleshoot, and transfer new products and technologies into manufacturing.
• Design, fabricate, and qualify fixtures, tooling, assemblies, and supporting hardware using SolidWorks.
• Create and maintain engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, work instructions, and engineering change documentation.
• Collaborate with R&D, Manufacturing, Operations, Safety, Quality, suppliers, and vendors on manufacturability, product quality, process capability, and manufacturing readiness.
• Support prototyping, testing, validation, root-cause investigations, continuous improvement, and equipment, tooling, and process modifications.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• At least 3 years of experience in applications engineering, design engineering, manufacturing engineering, process engineering, or new product development.
• Experience with vacuum technology.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks and mechanical design principles.
• Experience supporting product development and manufacturing environments.
• Strong technical problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams while managing multiple priorities.
