Engineering Manager - Personalization (AI)

Location: Hybrid in Seattle, WA, US; must work at the hirify.global corporate headquarters at least 4 days per week.

Salary: $166,000–$258,000 annual.

What you will do

• Lead the engineering team responsible for the Personalization Engine, including training pipelines, real-time recommendations, and complete-look experiences.
• Define technical direction for turning behavioral and product signals into ranked recommendations across marketing and digital experiences.
• Own delivery, reliability, team health, and the operation of a high-scale personalization platform.
• Partner with data science, product, platform engineering, business stakeholders, and senior leadership.
• Improve model quality, data quality, observability, SLOs, on-call health, incident response, and post-incident learning.
• Operate as a player-coach through architecture work, code reviews, incident response, and AI-native planning, building, and shipping.

Requirements

• 5+ years of relevant experience in software or machine learning engineering.
• 2+ years of experience managing engineering teams, or strong tech-lead experience ready to transition into people management.
• Experience building and operating production machine learning or recommendation systems at scale, including training pipelines, low-latency model serving, cloud infrastructure, and Kubernetes-based platforms.
• Experience improving reliability through SLOs, on-call health, incident response, and post-incident learning.
• Demonstrated agile delivery discipline, including consistently shipping committed work on schedule.
• Experience influencing without authority and communicating candidly with product, engineering, and business partners with competing priorities.
• BA/BS in Computer Science or a closely related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with Vertex AI or comparable managed machine learning training platforms.
• Experience leading an end-to-end migration of ML serving workloads between cloud and in-house platforms.
• Background in retail, e-commerce, or marketing technology.
• Experience applying generative AI and agentic tooling to engineering workflows or customer experiences.
• Familiarity with sequential or transformer-based recommendation approaches.
