AI Engineer

Location: WI Milwaukee Main Campus; the job is to be performed at the listed location. Other company locations include the NC Durham Office and Remote Illinois.

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate AI systems in customer-facing production environments.
• Translate ambiguous business and customer problems into prototypes and technical specifications.
• Track frontier AI capabilities and apply them where they create clear leverage.
• Own the application lifecycle, including product discovery, experimentation, evaluation, deployment, and monitoring.
• Own system design, technical tradeoffs, long-term scalability, and maintainability.
• Partner with product managers to enhance product vision, including AI-native solutions, and improve development tooling and codebases.

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience in software engineering or applied AI.
• Experience working with AI development tools in full-stack applications.
• Experience designing AI-based solutions for real workflows.
• Working knowledge of cloud platforms and frontier AI platforms.
• Strong applied AI and software engineering fundamentals.
• Ability to span technology, product, and design thinking with high autonomy.
• Bias toward shipping, iterating, and following customer feedback.
• High ownership, agency, curiosity, and focus on outcomes.

Nice to have

• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
• Experience operating AI systems in production, including evaluation, cost, and performance tradeoffs.
• Experience in high-ambiguity environments with proximity to customers, such as early-stage startups, forward-deployed engineering, or internal product teams.
• Experience working in large-scale Python, C#, and TypeScript codebases.
• Experience integrating AI solutions into established products.
• Experience with healthcare, regulated, or sensitive data.
