AI Engineer

Location: Livingston, NJ; New York, NY; or Sunnyvale, CA. The position requires access to export-controlled information; candidates must be U.S. persons, eligible to access the information without export authorization, or eligible and reasonably likely to obtain the required authorization.

Base salary: $143,000–$210,000 per year, plus discretionary bonus, equity awards, and benefits based on eligibility.

What you will do

• Design and build AI agents that investigate and act on real customer issues.
• Develop safeguards including authoritative-data grounding, human approval steps, stop conditions, idempotency, and audit trails.
• Build and evaluate retrieval systems over historical support data against held-out data and experienced-engineer baselines.
• Determine the appropriate balance between AI and deterministic logic, and instrument systems for quality, cost, latency, and adoption.
• Deploy and operate services on Kubernetes, including supporting production incidents and diagnosing failures.
• Partner with support engineers and domain experts during live investigations to identify useful automation.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong proficiency in Go or Python.
• Experience taking an AI application from prototype to production and supporting it afterward.
• Hands-on experience with agent patterns, including tool and function calling, multi-step orchestration, and handling incorrect model output.
• Experience building and evaluating retrieval systems using held-out data and baseline quality measurements.
• Experience designing production automation controls such as approval steps, idempotency, and audit trails.
• Experience diagnosing LLM application failures and fixing underlying causes.
• Experience with LLM application observability, including tracing, cost, and latency.
• Working knowledge of Kubernetes and experience deploying services through CI/CD.
• Experience integrating third-party APIs, including authentication and secrets handling.

Nice to have

• Experience building conversational or chat-based interfaces for internal users.
• Background in infrastructure, SRE, or technical support, with the ability to read logs and metrics from live systems.
• Experience testing deterministic and non-deterministic systems.
• Experience with fine-tuning or building training datasets from production data.
• Open source contributions to AI tooling or agent frameworks.
