Ground Software Engineer III (Blue Ring)

Location: Denver, CO, United States; must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted refugee or asylee.

Base pay range for CO applicants: $150,931.00–$211,303.05 per year. VA applicant range: $164,652.00–$230,512.80 per year.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain user-services software, including DTN implementation, customer data routing, and external APIs for payload data delivery.
• Build ground-system interfaces connecting Mars relay users, the relay network, and Earth-based services.
• Translate requirements into software designs and implementations with systems engineers and mission partners.
• Develop automated tests, perform integration testing, and tune performance for deep-space light-time delays.
• Implement CCSDS- and DTN Bundle Protocol-compliant interfaces and engage NASA, mission partners, and Mars user teams.
• Document designs, interfaces, implementations, and operational procedures while supporting deployment and handoff to operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of software development experience with production code in Python, Java, C++, or similar languages.
• Experience developing and maintaining external-facing APIs for data delivery.
• Experience with AWS or Azure and DevSecOps practices.
• Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
• Experience with space mission ground systems, spacecraft operations, or a related domain.
• Familiarity with antenna communications providers such as ATLAS, SSC, or DTN.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, collaboration, relationship-building, and technical explanation skills.
• U.S. citizenship or nationality, U.S. permanent residence, or lawful admission as a refugee or asylee.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with NASA civil space programs or U.S. Government agency missions such as NASA or JPL.
• Hands-on experience implementing DTN and delay/disruption-tolerant architectures.
• Experience with Mars Relay Operations Service or comparable relay planning systems.
• Experience with spacecraft subsystem software or onboard flight software.
• Experience with requirements management tools such as DOORS Next Generation.
