Manufacturing Engineer (Solid Rocket Motors)

Location: Rio Rancho, NM; manufacturing activities and facility work are also based in Midland, TX. U.S. person status under ITAR and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance are required.

What you will do

• Own the development, optimization, qualification, and execution of solid rocket motor manufacturing processes, including propellant mixing and casting, motor integration, and igniter assembly.
• Establish safe, repeatable processes with process specifications, work instructions, and explosives operating procedures.
• Qualify tooling, equipment, and processes for R&D and low-rate initial production, and support process validation at the Midland facility.
• Lead prototype, research, and Blackbeard program builds, as well as new product introduction, continuous improvement, and facility ramp-up.
• Apply DFM, DFA, PFMEA, control plans, and SPC to improve yield, reduce cycle time, and lower cost.
• Collaborate with Design, Automation & Controls, Quality, Test, Manufacturing Engineering, and suppliers on integration, incoming quality, materials, tooling, and equipment issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
• 2+ years of manufacturing or mechanical engineering experience.
• Demonstrated success developing and scaling manufacturing processes from prototype to low-rate or rate production.
• Experience in fast-paced environments such as aerospace startups.
• Hands-on experience building, inspecting, and accepting assemblies.
• Proficiency in CAD, specifically SolidWorks or NX, GD&T, tooling and fixture design, process documentation, and nonconformance disposition.
• U.S. person status as defined under ITAR.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.
• A safety-first mindset, rigorous attention to detail, data-driven problem-solving, production-floor experience, clear communication, collaboration across engineering and production, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Nice to have

• Experience with energetic materials or solid rocket motor manufacturing.
• Working knowledge of explosives safety requirements, hazard analysis, and hazardous process manufacturing.
• Experience with facility stand-up, equipment qualification, or production ramp activities.
• Experience supporting ITAR-controlled and classified programs.
