Senior Python Engineer

Location: Sofia, Bulgaria; hybrid work from the client's office approximately 1–2 days per week or biweekly.

What you will do

• Design, develop, maintain, and scale backend applications, RESTful APIs, and microservices using Python.
• Design robust software architectures, database schemas, queries, and data access patterns.
• Write clean, reusable, well-structured, and thoroughly tested code, including unit, integration, and functional tests.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, technical issues, security concerns, and scalability challenges.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, participate in code reviews, lead technical discussions, and contribute to architectural decisions.
• Support CI/CD processes, deployments, monitoring, production troubleshooting, and mentor junior and mid-level developers.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software development experience with strong hands-on Python expertise.
• Advanced Python knowledge, including object-oriented programming, asynchronous programming, and modern language features.
• Strong experience with FastAPI, Django, or Flask, and with designing, developing, and maintaining RESTful APIs and backend services.
• Strong understanding of software design principles, design patterns, clean architecture, microservices, distributed systems, and service-oriented architecture.
• Experience with PostgreSQL or MySQL; familiarity with MongoDB, Redis, SQLAlchemy, or Django ORM.
• Experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, Git, collaborative development practices, and cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Strong knowledge of automated testing with Pytest or unittest.
• Understanding of application security, performance optimization, logging, and error handling.
• Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills; ability to make independent technical decisions and own complex development tasks.
• Good English communication skills, experience collaborating with international teams, and ability to work from the client's Sofia office approximately two days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience with Kubernetes, container orchestration, message brokers, asynchronous task processing, event-driven architectures, serverless architectures, and cloud-native development.
• Experience with GraphQL, WebSockets, Terraform, monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog.
• Familiarity with Pandas or NumPy, high-load systems, performance-critical applications, and Agile/Scrum methodologies.
