Portfolio Chief Technology Officer

Location: London, United Kingdom; hybrid, with an in-office requirement of 4 days a week. The role supports technology leadership across EMEA and European portfolio companies.

What you will do

• Define and drive software development and engineering value-creation agendas across portfolio companies, covering product architecture, scalability, technical debt, cloud modernization, AI in the software development lifecycle, and AI in products.
• Partner with portfolio management teams, deal teams, and GPS functional peers to create and execute technology roadmaps aligned with investment theses and ownership stages.
• Support technical diligence for new investments by assessing engineering organizations, technology stacks, product roadmap maturity, platform scalability, engineering capabilities, and technical debt.
• Translate diligence findings into value-creation plans and contribute technology perspectives to investment committee materials and investment decisions.
• Build and manage networks of software engineering partners, specialist advisors, fractional leaders, implementation firms, and vendors; coach and mentor portfolio-company CTOs and engineering leaders.
• Establish reusable playbooks, benchmarks, best practices, and CTO peer forums; position technology assets for exit by articulating the equity story, reducing technology risk, and evidencing scalability.

Requirements

• Experience serving as a CTO or equivalent technology executive or senior practitioner, ideally at a private-equity- or venture-backed company that completed a meaningful technology transformation.
• Deep, current expertise in product engineering, software architecture, and AI within the software development lifecycle.
• Experience leading or overseeing meaningful software transformations, ideally in mid-market B2B software or SaaS businesses, and translating technology investment into measurable outcomes such as revenue growth, cost reduction, margin expansion, or increased enterprise value.
• Experience designing and optimizing technology operating models, including organizational structures, onshore/offshore models, platform teams, and vendor strategies.
• Familiarity with the private equity investment lifecycle, including technology diligence, value-creation planning, portfolio-company execution, and exit readiness.
• Experience building and leveraging networks of technology partners, specialist advisors, and vendors while maintaining a lean operating model.
• Ability to operate across multiple businesses, priorities, geographies, and cultures within a European context.
• Ability to identify technology issues affecting business performance and translate them into P&L, valuation, and investment outcomes; communicate impact clearly to financial and investment professionals.
• Ability to influence founders, CEOs, CTOs/CIOs, management teams, boards, and investment professionals without formal authority; strong written and verbal communication, executive presence, judgment, adaptability, collaboration, and a bias to action.
• Fluency in German and/or French is required.
