Senior Full-Stack Engineer (Java)

The role supports Bank Mendes Gans, ING’s wholesale banking subsidiary focused on cash management, liquidity management, and transaction banking solutions for multinational corporations.

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, maintain, and operate business-critical frontend and backend applications for treasury and transaction banking platforms.
• Build APIs, integration services, and user-facing functionality for liquidity and information management solutions.
• Participate in architecture discussions, technical design decisions, code reviews, refactoring, automated testing, and platform modernization.
• Own services from development through production, including monitoring, incident investigation, root cause analysis, alerting, reliability, on-call support, and operational automation.
• Apply AI-assisted engineering tools responsibly for development, testing, documentation, troubleshooting, and productivity improvements while meeting security, privacy, and governance requirements.
• Collaborate with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Architects, DevOps engineers, stakeholders, and international squads; share knowledge and mentor less experienced engineers.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with a JVM language and related technology stack.
• Hands-on experience with Java 21, Spring Boot 4.x, the Spring Framework suite, JPA/Hibernate, REST and gRPC APIs, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, accessibility, security, and UI technologies.
• Experience with Lit-HTML or one of Angular, React, Vue, or Svelte.
• Knowledge of enterprise integration patterns and middleware, including JMS and Kafka.
• Knowledge of relational databases, specifically MS SQL Server or Oracle, including database model tuning and data-intensive operations.
• Ability to write clean and maintainable code; test code with JUnit, Mockito, JGiven, Cucumber, or Karate; and use Playwright for web testing and automation.
• Knowledge of source control, CI/CD, and documentation tools including Azure DevOps, Git, Maven, and Confluence, with the ability to define CI/CD pipelines and manage DevOps activities across the software development lifecycle.
• Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, HTTP1/2, messaging, RPCs, Domain-Driven Design, and architecture patterns such as monoliths and microservices.
• Strong analytical, stakeholder management, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; proactivity, independent decision-making, quality focus, and the ability to work in cross-border international teams.
• Advanced English and a completed Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with a strong analytical background in Computer Science, Cybernetics, Software Engineering, Financial Engineering, or an equivalent field.

Nice to have

• Performance testing with JMeter or Gatling.
• Experience exposing meaningful metrics, configuring monitoring and alerting, and profiling applications.
• Familiarity with the Elastic stack and querying logs.
• Experience or affinity with IT security concepts.
• Experience with other JVM or programming languages, including Kotlin.
