Molecular Biology Scientist (Protein Expression)

What you will do

• Develop and optimize protein expression workflows across cell-free systems, E. coli, and potentially mammalian systems.
• Design and execute high-throughput DNA synthesis and assembly protocols using PCR, Golden Gate, and Gibson methods.
• Develop new assays or adapt existing assays for thermostability, developability, enzyme activity, and future customer requirements.
• Run molecular biology experiments at the bench, analyze experimental data, and iterate on protocols.
• Work with the automation team to translate validated methods into automated workflows.
• Identify experimental failure modes and systematically improve yield, fidelity, throughput, and reproducibility.

Requirements

• MSc or PhD in molecular biology, bioengineering, or a relevant field. Hands-on molecular biology experience is emphasized over the degree title.
• Practical experience with protein expression and purification, including producing recombinant proteins that are soluble, folded, and functional.
• Experience with DNA synthesis, cloning, or assembly methods, including PCR, Golden Gate, or Gibson.
• Ability to analyze chromatograms, binding curves, expression gels, and other experimental data independently.
• Rigorous experimental practice, including detailed documentation, proper controls, and attention to reproducibility.
• Interest in converting manual protocols into automated workflows; robot programming is not required.
• Independent and resourceful troubleshooting using literature, first principles, and experimentation.

• High-throughput experience with DNA synthesis, cloning, or assembly.
