Software Engineer, Internship - Query Engines

Location: London, United Kingdom; on-site work from an office is required.

Salary: $10,500 per month.

hirify.global builds software for data-driven decisions and operations, including the Foundry data platform used in healthcare, supply chains, and other consequential domains.

What you will do

• Build and extend data processing infrastructure supporting hirify.global Foundry products and workloads.
• Work on query planning, execution operators, data reading and writing, and table scanning performance.
• Extend open-source engines and table formats including Apache Spark, Apache DataFusion, and Apache Iceberg.
• Write planning rules, add capabilities to native execution engines, and optimize large-table scans.
• Take work through design, code review, testing, and production release while ensuring correctness, compatibility, and predictable performance.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Physics, or a similar field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Proficiency in at least one of Java, Rust, Scala, C++, or C.
• Strong foundations in algorithms, data structures, and concurrency.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Coursework or projects in databases, compilers, operating systems, or distributed systems.
• Contributions to open-source projects.
• Must be planning to graduate in 2028; this must be the final internship before graduation.

• No prior experience with the listed technologies is required; willingness to learn them is expected.
