Senior Payment Applications Manager (Banking & Financial Services)

Location: Portugal, remote. Candidates must already have the legal right to work in the European Union.

What you will do

• Oversee the operation and maintenance of critical payment processing applications, ensuring stability, security, and compliance.
• Manage incident and change management processes in banking and financial services environments.
• Coordinate integrations involving APIs, message queues, and clearing systems including TIPS and RT1.
• Perform troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and performance tuning across complex IT landscapes.
• Coordinate cross-functional delivery of updates and enhancements aligned with regulatory standards.
• Drive security controls, fraud prevention, sanctions screening, automation, and DevOps improvements.

Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in payment processing or related banking IT environments.
• Strong knowledge of European payment schemes, especially SEPA SCT/SDD, SEPA Instant Payments including RT1, and T2.
• Proficiency with Unix/Linux and Windows Server environments, scripting, and system monitoring.
• Hands-on experience with relational databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL, including PL/SQL and SQL.
• Familiarity with application servers, REST and SOAP web services, and middleware architectures.
• Deep understanding of core banking systems, payment architectures, and regulatory requirements.
• Existing legal right to work in the European Union.
• Fluent English.

Nice to have

• Certifications or experience in ITSM, ITIL, or DevOps tools and practices.
• Knowledge of cloud environments and data-center operations.
• Experience with security frameworks, anti-fraud solutions, or compliance systems.
