Contract Negotiator II

Location: College Station, Texas; this position requires an on-site presence and is not fully remote. Limited partially remote work may be available, but remote work arrangements are restricted to Texas-based locations.

What you will do

• Independently draft, review, edit, and negotiate non-sponsored agreements, including confidentiality agreements, MOAs/MOUs, material transfers, interagency and intrasystem agreements, facility rentals, service contracts, and purchasing terms.
• Draft, review, edit, and negotiate sponsored research agreements.
• Ensure agreements comply with applicable laws, policies, and guidelines, escalating appropriate matters to management or legal counsel.
• Explain contractual clauses, risks, and legal effects to vendors, sponsors, investigators, administration, and agency personnel.
• Identify contractual risks, propose solutions, gather stakeholder information, and help resolve issues preventing agreement completion.
• Manage contract files, documentation, tracking, reporting, multiple negotiations, competing priorities, and deadlines.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of business-related contract experience.
• Ability to review, understand, revise, and draft business and research-related agreements without forms or supervision.
• Ability to negotiate contract terms and reach compromises.
• Excellent written and oral communication, customer service, interpersonal, organizational, time-management, analytical, proofreading, and multitasking skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage competing priorities, and handle a deadline-intensive, high-volume workload.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook.
• Ability to learn electronic document management systems.

Nice to have

• J.D. degree, legal education, or legal experience.
• Contracting experience in a university or research environment.
• Experience negotiating or administering sponsored research contracts.
• Knowledge of contract language and terms, sponsored research contracts, university or state agency contracts, and business contracting and administration.
• Experience with Microsoft Access, Adobe Acrobat, Laserfiche, and Maestro.
