Manager, Quality Engineering (QE)

Location: Santa Clara, California, United States of America; most teams work from the office full time.

Salary: $175,400–$283,800 per year; additional restricted stock units and bonus may be included.

What you will do

• Define and execute the QE strategy, quality roadmap, engineering standards, risk-based testing practices, and test strategies across products and platforms.
• Own QE activities across the software release lifecycle, including release planning, test readiness, defect triage, quality gates, release validation, production readiness, and post-release monitoring.
• Lead system integration and end-to-end testing across interconnected applications, services, APIs, third-party systems, and distributed architectures.
• Drive scalable automation across UI, API, integration, regression, and end-to-end testing; integrate automated tests into CI/CD workflows and reduce flaky tests.
• Build or sponsor QE tools, testing libraries, frameworks, and infrastructure that improve execution speed, developer feedback, and engineering productivity.
• Lead, mentor, recruit, and develop Quality Engineers and Test Automation Engineers while partnering with Engineering, Product, DevOps/SRE, architecture, and other technical teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of experience in software quality engineering, test engineering, automation, or related software engineering roles, including 3+ years managing or leading QE/Test Engineering teams.
• Strong experience developing and implementing test strategies and quality engineering processes.
• Proven experience with test automation frameworks and CI/CD integration.
• Strong understanding of API, integration, system, regression, and end-to-end testing.
• Experience managing software releases and release quality gates.
• Experience testing distributed systems, microservices, APIs, cloud applications, or other complex systems.
• Strong understanding of modern software development and CI/CD practices.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.

Nice to have

• Experience building or scaling QE organizations.
• Experience with cloud-native architectures, distributed systems, performance, scalability, reliability, and resilience testing.
• Experience building internal QE tooling, test infrastructure, managing test data and environments, and monitoring production quality.
• Experience applying AI/ML or intelligent automation to software testing.
• Strong programming or scripting experience with Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar languages.
